About Me

"When I look at my room, I see a girl who loves books."

Oh, hey!  It's so nice of you to drop by.

I'm Teisha, the Girl Behind the Monitor.

I'm a 24-year-old professional reader.  I recently graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in English Literature and Communication Studies.  GO HEELS!

I am a: Cancer.  INFJ.  Perfectionist & Procrastinator.  Hot Cocoa Queen.  Lover of pretty couture dresses that I can't afford.  I aspire to be as flawless as Olivia Pope and as caring as Tami Taylor.  Daughter of the rain and snow.  I love to try new things and experience different cultures and lifestyles.  I am one of 5 children (and, although I am the second oldest, I am the shortest of all).  Everything about autumn makes me happy.  I have been embracing my fro' for about 4 years now.  Oxford Comma for the win!  I'm always swooning over Chris Hemsworth -- always.  I really want a pug named Percy (so that I can fulfill my childhood fantasy of becoming Pocahontas).  I'm probably going to name my children after my favorite literary characters.

Favorite Authors // Sarah J. Maas, Cassandra Clare, Marie Rutkoski, Jodi Picoult

Current TV Obsessions // Peaky Blinders, Jane The Virgin, How to Get Away With Murder, Friday Night Lights (my all-time favorite)

Favorite Music Artists // Florence + The Machine, Daughter, Chance The Rapper, Khalid, Halsey, Bastille, Birdy, Sam Hunt, X Ambassadors, Drake, Ruelle, Imagine Dragons

Confessions of a Bibliophile

I have always always always been passionate about books.

I remember still remember perusing the library shelves of my elementary school library, searching for Harry Potter, Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books, and Mildred D. Taylor's riveting series about the Logan family.  But, I became especially enthusiastic about reading in high school--that's when my friends and I discovered Twilight. It took me only two days to get through the 800 + page final installment of the series, Breaking Dawn. After that, I started reading like wildfire, picking up and consuming every book in my wake.

My love for reading has only grown since then--it is a fire that will never smolder.  It is Augustus Waters' roller coaster that only goes up.  I will be collecting books and reading them for the rest of my life, because there are so many to choose from.  There are so many!  And I wish I could read them all, but I know I never will.  However, I will do my best to read as many as I can.

I think my love of books can be summed up in this one quote:
"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.  The man who never reads lives only one."                                                                         --George R. R. Martin

Books take us on adventures that we'll never be able to have.  Books provide us with friends we'll never be able to meet, but who will always be with us.  And most importantly, books challenge us, and make us think of the world around us in new ways.

And, it's not just books that do these things for us, it's television shows and movies, too!  It's all forms of storytelling.  I think that storytelling is the greatest form of human connection.  Stories are what bring people together, what bring some sense of meaning to our lives, what bring this Earth and all of it's history full-circle. Houses and cars and the material things are satisfying and necessary, but temporary. Our stories, however, will live on forever.

Why This Girl Writes Reviews

In a way, this blog is my own little storytelling experience.  I get to talk to people from all over the world, most of them I'll never meet.  I get to share my unique opinions and viewpoints about certain topics.

Simply put, I've created this blog to keep the cycle going.  I want to connect with other human beings and pass on meaningful and influential stories.

I hope you'll interact with me in this space and help me to succeed in my mission.

Kudos to you if you've read this entire post.
