Top Ten Tuesday | Books I'm Not Sure I Want to Read

The Top Ten Tuesday Meme is brought to you via
The Broke and The Bookish

Well, Hello!

I've missed you all.  Sorry for the radio silence.  I just moved back into my apartment at school on Sunday so I've been super busy getting my life in order.

I hope you all have had a less stressful start to your week:)

This week's Top Ten Tuesday is about the ten books I'm not sure I want to read.  Usually, I'll read a book's synopsis and I'll know immediately whether I want to read it or not.  But, sometimes, other readers' ratings and reviews can sway my decision.

So, without further ado, let's talk about the books I've been hesitant to pick up:

10) The Death Cure by James Dashner

This is the third and final book in The Maze Runner series.  I really enjoyed The Maze Runner, but I was incredibly disappointed with its sequel, The Scorch Trials.  It was pretty terrible, so much so that I don't know if I want to finish the series or not.  But, I do want to se the movie starring Dylan O'Brien.  I LOVE him.

9) Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

I've heard that this book is really good.  However, it's the plot itself that makes me wary.  Here's a bit of the synopsis:
She is pretty and talented - sweet sixteen and never been kissed. He is seventeen; gorgeous and on the brink of a bright future. And now they have fallen in love. But... they are brother and sister.

8) Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

I've heard really good things about this one.  But, the steampunk aspect is holding me back.  Not a fan of steampunk.

7) Liar by Justine Larbalestier

I have read some mixed reviews about this one.  I've seen some of my Goodreads friends give it 5-stars and gush about how amazing it is.  But, I've also heard that it's terrible.  All I know is that this book has an unreliable narrator, and I can't decide if that would be intriguing to read or whether it would give me a headache.

6) The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

I have heard nothing but good things about this series.  And, I really want to read it.  But, I can't help but feel that, at 21, I'm too old to be reading these books.  I feel that if they are written for a much younger age group, the writing style may not be my cup of tea.  I really wish I would have read these when I was a kid.

5) Panic by Lauren Oliver

I'm really enjoying Lauren Oliver's Delirium trilogy.  I like her writing, so  I want to branch out to some of her other books.  I've read mixed reviews about Panic as well.  From what I gather, the book is enjoyable, but the ending is not satisfying.

4) Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

I love a good contemporary romance.  Fangirl anyone?  But, for some reason, Anna and the French Kiss feels very chick-lit-ish to me.  And, although I really used to enjoy chick-lit, it doesn't suit my tastes anymore.

3) Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia

I liked Beautiful Creatures and I liked the movie even more.  But, I feel like that was a book that would have been just fine as a stand alone.  I didn't really like the set-up for the second book/ending of Beautiful Creatures.  So, I'm not really sure about this one.

2) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I've heard that this is a really great series that gets better and better with each book.  I own this book, but it's been chilling in my TBR-pile for quite some time now.  After having read and watched The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries (among other forms of vampiric entertainment), I'm just really tired of vampires. I don't know if I have it in me to start another vampire series.

1) Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking

I've got this one on my Kindle.  I consider myself an introvert, so this book really appeals to me.  However, I have never done well with non-fiction books.  So, it's a toss up as to whether or not I'll ever pick this one up.

Tell Me Your Thoughts

  1. Have you read any of these titles?  Are there any on here that you think I definitely should or should not read?
  2. Did you complete a Top Ten Tuesday this week?  If so, be sure to link it below!

Talk to you later,

  1. I really didn't like Anna and the French kiss.. I didn't care for the romance and I didn't like Anna. We have Vampire Academy & The lightening thief in common! I've read the first VA book, tried to read the second one and then put it on hold. I'm scared for Percy Jackson..

  2. I read The Lightning Thief when I was 15. It does have really cheesy humor but the first time you read it should give you a good laugh. It's too good of a series not to try.

I totally agree with you about Forbidden. I'm weirded out and intrigued by the summary. People used to marry their cousins so..... maybe it won't be so bad. I know it'll end badly though so I would be worried about that the whole time.

I loved The Maze Runner and thought The Scorch Trials was even better. I didn't like how The Death Cure ended... but you've got to finish it! You never know you might like it way more than you expect.
